Fried chicken with peppers and lemon | Food From Portugal

Units: Metric (Units: US)


  • 750 grams (1 2/3 pounds) chicken cut into pieces
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1/2 yellow pepper
  • 100 ml (1/2 cup) olive oil
  • 1 lemon
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1 medium onion
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Nutmeg (to taste)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Salt (to taste)


    Step 1

    1. Season the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, chopped garlic, nutmeg, the peppers cut into strips, lemon juice and lemon slices. Let marinate for 1 hour.

    Step 2

    1. Put the olive oil and the chopped onion in a frying pan and saute over low heat until the onion start to turn slightly golden. Add the chicken pieces together with the marinade, cover the skillet and fry the chicken over medium-low heat about 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Step 3

    1. Turn off the heat and serve the chicken with rice or chips.
