HOW TO MAKE TUNA IN THE OVEN:

Cook the eggs in a saucepan with water. When the eggs are cooked, peel them and set aside.
Peel and wash the potatoes. Cut them into round slices and fry in hot oil. When they are fried, place the potatoes in a dish with absorbent paper.
Meanwhile, shred the tuna with a fork and set aside. Place the olive oil, chopped onion, the peeled tomatoes cut into small pieces and the oregano in a saucepan and cook over low heat until the tomato start to break down. Add the tuna and season with pepper. Stir and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes.
In a bowl, mix with a fork the béchamel, the cream and the nutmeg. Put on the bottom of a baking dish a layer of potatoes, on top, the tuna mixtureA layer of potatoes and a layer of tuna mixture on a baking dish and one more layer of potatoes. Ingredients

  • 350 grams (12 1/3 ounces) canned tuna
  • 1 kg (2 1/4 pounds) potatoes
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 50 ml (1/4 cup) olive oil
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Nutmeg (to taste)
  • Oregano (to taste)
  • 200 ml (1/2 pint (236 ml)) whipping cream
  • 100 grams (3 1/2 ounces) grated cheese
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 200 ml (about 1 cup) béchamel sauce

Directions

  1. Cook the eggs in a saucepan with water. When the eggs are cooked, peel them and set aside.

  4. Preheat the oven to 180ºC (350ºF).
  5. In a bowl, mix with a fork the béchamel, the cream and the nutmeg.
  6. Place on the bottom of a baking dish a layer of potatoes, on top, the tuna mixture and one more layer of potatoes. Garnish with egg slices, drizzle with the béchamel and cream mixture and sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake until golden brown, about 45 minutes.
  7. Turn off the oven and serve with salad.
