- Nutmeg, chopped garlic, pepper and Worcestershire sauce - To season the meat.
- Bread crumbs - Helps to give consistency to the meatballs.
- Egg yolk - Adds flavor and creaminess to the meatballs.
- Olive oil, tomato cut into small chunks, chopped onion and oregano - The base of the sauce to cook the meatballs.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE MEATBALLS IN TOMATO SAUCE
Step 1: In a large bowl, mix the beef with the pork. Season with salt, nutmeg, pepper, chopped garlic, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce and egg yolk.
Step 2: Mix well the seasonings in the meat.
Step 3: Mold with your hands small portions of the meat in the shape of balls and set aside.
Step 4: In a large saucepan, add the peeled tomatoes cut into chunks, chopped onion, oregano and the olive oil. Cook on a low heat until the tomato start to break down.
Step 5: Add the meatballs and drizzle with red wine. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for about 30 minutes.
Step 6: Turn off the heat and serve the meatballs with mashed potatoes or spaghetti.
RECIPE TIPS
1. If you have leftovers, store the meatballs in the fridge in a properly airtight container (to prevent the growth of microorganisms).
2. To get the most tender meatballs, cook them over low heat with the pan covered (don't forget to stir occasionally).
3. For a thick tomato sauce, you can make this recipe with tomato puree instead of fresh tomatoes.

- 3 cloves of garlic (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 50 ml (1/4 cup) olive oil
- 4 medium ripe tomatoes
- 150 ml (2/3 cup) red wine
- 1 large onion
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon salt
